Changing coolant - need simple how-to
« on: December 06, 2005, 08:39:36 PM »
Can someone post up a simple how-to on changing the coolant?  I just wanna make sure I don't miss any simple steps, like the thing Yifan unfortunately figured out (which I wouldn't have thought of).  I think I'll get stuck doing it Saturday night.

Thanks,

Ray

OK... here's the deal, from the siphon's mouth.

1. Let bike cool :)
2. Remove radiator cap.
3. Remove the plug at the bottom of the engine case. (Check your owner's manual)
4. Let all that coolant spray out
5. Empty resevoir (Find resevoir and remove cap. if you can easily disconnect it and just dump it out, then do that. Else siphon it out.
6. poor distilled water into radiator.
7. Replug the engine bolt. (hehe yifan) Poor distilled water into resevoir. Cap.
8. Run bike a minute or two.
9. Repeat.

Duh. I forgot the water wetter part.  After you've run a couple iterations (one ought to be enough, two if you feel like it, whatever) then replace the distilled water with a distilled water/water wetter mix.  Then....

you forgot 6.5 : listen for water dripping from bottom of bike to make sure your cooling system pipes are not clogged.  We all know that's why I did that  ::)

oh, and personally, I like rich distilled water  ;)
