Ninja 250 issues...
« on: July 10, 2005, 06:37:54 AM »
I would suggest getting your Ninja 250 to a mechanic who will set the carbs richer.

My bike is now at 33K miles, and the valves are really toasted. The range the valves can be adjusted now is narrowing a lot. Running lean, like all kalifornia bikes are required to do, seems to be extra hard on the high revving 250 motor.

The guy says that it would likely be nowhere near that bad if it had been *properly* adjusted all along.

Besides, it runs better than it ever has now that it's getting a proper fuel air mixture!

proper mixture is always good for the bike.  in those 33k miles, did you do any valve adjustments?

O yeah. I have done my adjustments every 6K miles.

And my friend who had the bike before me kept up on the service too.

When you did the adjustments, how many valves were too tight each time?  Supposedly, after the first adjustment, it usually doens't need as much adjusting.  When I did the first valve adjustment (probably around 5k miles, I forgot exactly), 5 of the 8 valves were tight.
