replace mufflers on a V-star
« on: January 07, 2005, 03:19:34 PM »
Anyone know how difficult it is to replace mufflers on a Yamaha V-Star 650?  I scraped mine up, plus it already had some scratches when I bought it used so I bot a set on E-Bay for $100.  Hope I did not pay too much.  The top muffler has a header but the bottom one is missing the header so will use existing.

Looks like it should just be a bolt off and on with the newer one, except for maybe some gaskets.  Or did I overlook some major potential problem?

These things sometime appear simple until you try and take it apart.

Any suggestions?

Richard--I don't have any practical advice, but I'm interested in how it comes out for you. Did you get OEM or aftermarket like Hard Krome or Vance and Hines?

Titan, I have seen some members of V-Star C, C & D sell their full system pipe at around $70. I know it is too late to tell you that. I'd like to know how to replace one as well.

Have you tried The Telmo mod on your old pipe before taking apart. Check here http://650ccnd.com/pipe1.htm . This mod will make stock pipe sound better, lounder and a little bit deeper.

I'd like to do this mod on my bike, but I'm afriade of messing thing up. I'm not a handyman type and don't even have any tools available.

How bad is your old pipe, I might want to buy only the tip parts out of you inorder to try this mod.
