"Coastal Mountains Motorcycle Ride"
« on: May 28, 2005, 12:13:22 AM »
I want to do this ride.  I need to do this ride.  Maybe fall is best.  Probably getting too hot right now for parts of this ride.

Oh, off pashnit.com, here it is:

Looks like a great ride, eh?

Also, I think a summer ride up Hwy 1 to Big Sur area is also needed.

cribbage anyone?

I took a similar route. Mostly roads and highways, very little Fwy.

Foothill Blvd-ACH-AFW-Sierra Hwy.-Soledad Cny.-Lake Hughes Rd.-138-Frazier Park east- to 33 north-to 166 west to 101 north(not for long) to Hwy 1 to Big Sur...Monterrey-To San Francisco....ect

I'll buy the wine.   8)

How long did this take? I've done Hwy 1 to Big Sur in a car, I really want to do it on the biek at some point.
I need the sunshine in the morning, I'm heading for the open road.

Well, I'll be riding up to Big Sur area in a few weeks for a seminar.  Plan to take Hwy 1 up from Morro Bay.  Haven't decided the roads between here and Morro Bay tho.  But I don't have the time to take Robert's route, looks fun tho.

I'm waiting for Robert to say he did that route in a day, and I'll believe it too!

If anyone has ideas for routes from here to Morro Bay, please chime in.  For now, I just plan to take PCH up thru Ventura, 101 past Santa Barbara, then the 1 thru Lompoc, then I think it hits up with the 101 again north of Solvang, then peel off on the 1 again north of SLO.  Then Hwy 1 to Big Sur, yeah baby.

Well, I did not do it in a day, not that there is anything wrong with it.........oooops, wrong subject. It took me 7 hours to get to Morro Bay, which includes a lunch and sight seeing. We stayed in Morro Bay overnight and then headed north on Hwy 1 through Cambria, San Simeon, Big Sur, Monterrey and eventually made it up to SF, that took all day, but well worth it.

Hairball, the route you're taking is great. Make sure that you know your way through Lompoc because Hwy 1 just drops you off in front of the Home Depot and then it's surface streets through Lompoc. You catch Hwy 1 from F Street, which turns into Hwy 1. This will take you toward Guadalupe and Santa Maria. Last weekend my wife and I did this route to Santa Maria. Make sure you have lunch or dinner at Jocko's in the town of Nipomo, just 5 miles north of Santa Maria. Good luck and have fun.
