!!!MANIC Salamander bar-end weights
« on: January 07, 2005, 11:38:47 AM »
Stainless Steel 8mm bolt-on
Price paid $49.95 + shipping
Purchased directly through the manufacturer, http://www.manicsalamander.com/bar_end_weight.htm

Reduces vibration. Simply beautiful. Easy install.

Honestly, I could not tell you how much better the MS bar-end weights are compared to the OEM bar-ends. The main reason for my inability to compare is because I rode around for a week without any bar-ends. Initially, I hated not having any bar-ends because the vibration was numbing. The fatigue was noticeable. But by weeks end I didn't notice the vibration as much.

However, after installing the MS bar-end weights, the handle bar was so smooth that I thought there was something wrong with my bike. In my head, the only thing telling me that the bike was started was the sound of the engine.

Those are expensive... but I do need new bar ends on my bike anyway. I'll keep that in mind in the near future...

Why were you riding around without bar ends for a week? Was the shipping on th bar ends quick? Mine are a little grinded, time to replace.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

As I recall, I wasn't sure which bar-ends to buy until I could remove the OEM bar-ends. They were such a bitch to remove because of the red loctite, I refused to put them back on.

They were $59 shipped. Now I am wondering how I will get the stock bar ends off.

I managed to get the stock barends off when I bought my new bike.  One with just a #2 phillips screw driver but the other one had more loctite.

I used a heavy duty Milwaukee drill [this is a now rare to find Made In USA drill].

Had it out in a couple of minutes.  After that, I noticed one of the lower cowling fairing screw was way too tight [thank you berts!] and also met the drill.
Was having fun so I stripped the other lower side screw so I can drill it. >:D

I replaced the screws with stainless steel allen head and now I don't have to worry about taking any of them off.
