RIP Marco Simoncelli
« on: October 25, 2011, 03:59:11 PM »
I am really sad about Marco Simoncelli.  His passes may have been controversial, but he seemed like a really good guy.  I will miss seeing him on the grid.

Watching the whole thing happen really affected me and bummed me out too. A whole lot of character just left the paddock..  :'(

Read this last night, just sounded so sad:

A video has emerged showing that marshals dropped part of the stretcher as they rushed from the track, but Paolo played down the significance of the incident.

"Marco was already dead," he said. "I was there and it would not have changed anything. When they came up [with the stretcher] I took Marco's hand, I tried to greet him, but he was already gone, there was nothing anyone could do."

I saw that video, and judging by the accident I agree that it was not good that they dropped him, but probably inconsequential at that point.

Carla and I are both shook up pretty good.  It's weird how you feel like you know these guys after watching them race for so many years.  I am fans of all of them ...

Yeah.  I know what you mean.  I never met the guy, but it made me profoundly sad to hear that he passed.  It really does feel like I knew the man.
