Pffft...aging my arse! I'm still sporting my 02. Honestly, I know where you're coming from. Every new model of bike that comes by, I find I have to accelerate harder, brake later, lean harder, and carry more and more corner speed to keep these young punks in check....I keed...sort of. Anyways, my chicken strips always let me know that I'm not running her to the ragged edge.

Anyways, here's something you may find inspiration with regards to equipment:

http://www.superbikeplanet.com/bayliss_2000_a.htm

Here's an excerpt:

Once at the track and fitted with leathers and a number plate, Bayliss did something few new club racers do: he left the bike alone and just rode it, never changing anything but tires and fuel. He concentrated not on jetting or gearing or which tire works where, but just on going as humanly fast as he could go on that motorcycle. He learned that going six inches wide on the exit of this corner gave him another mile and a half on that straight; that it was pretty easy to pass other riders on the brakes; little lessons like that made him a better rider.

Of course, the fact that Bayliss and friends had no idea what they were doing helped.

Bayliss recalls, "I didn't have any car, so we used to take the back seat out of my father-in-law's van, put the bike in there and take it to the races. Me and (father-in-law) Max, we knew nothing about racing. All we did was put petrol in my bike and race."

Ignorance is bliss. "We'd be sitting in the pits, and look at all these riders working on their bikes, we'd look at each other and say, 'What are they doin'? Why are they workin' on their bikes all the time?'. It was quite funny."

Bayliss passed all the tests that fast club racers usually fail. He jumped up to the regional level, with more power and stiffer competition and still won. He started doing national level Supersport racing in Australia and went right to the front. That was a characteristic of his riding, that more times than not, really no matter what, he was at the front.

Finally got around to reading the article.  That was a good enough read to make me a Bayliss fan.

Every time I think thoughts like that, I remember that I'm not as good as Kevin Schwantz.  That makes it a lot easier to buy useless mods.

You know, there's one in every one of my groups. You that guy with the latest snowboard, made with a carbon helicoptor rotor material weave and super duper core technology, gear used by Siberian KGB operatives, and goggles used by professional iditarod sled mushers. But he's always the one you wait for at the bottom of the mountain?

Or that guy with the carbon fiber moutain bike frame + forks + rims + crankset + seat post + headset + drink holder, italian clip-on shoes, hydraulic disc wave rotors, automatic lock-out shock and forks, expensive jersey. But he's the same guy who'll hold you up on the single track and walk up most of the trail.

And then, there's Pat, we all know Pat hahahaha. And I am busting your balls!

Dude!   >:(

It's not about how fast you GO, it's about how fast you LOOK.
Track day pics are all that matters.  Man, I'm so Korean.

The way things are now, I'm the slowest by a long shot.  I have to push my damn bike to get it to go anywhere.  :(

relatively speaking, I should be better than I am.  I swear, I can't navigate through a parking lot to save my life.  There's this really small window of speed where I feel comfortable.  Anything below or above 30-33mph is just scary to me.   :o

So what mods will make my bike better at any speeds outside of that range?   ???

Have you thought about suspension work? Getting the suspension revalved, or getting Race Tech Gold valves installed?

Unless you have already done it, I would recommend atleast changing the fork oil.

Sorry, but I've been on the suspension thing, my Honda is transformed, its like I've got a totally different bike than before.
