Saturday, June 2 GMR/GRR
« on: May 30, 2007, 11:37:20 PM »
Anyone up for a GMR/GRR ride on Saturday, June 2 or even Sunday, June 3? It will be my first time. How many times can you say that! Any takers or in this case leaders?

I'm not sure yet, won't know until tomorrow.
I need the sunshine in the morning, I'm heading for the open road.

I'm thinking of leading some newer riders up there on Saturday afternoon.  The squids are usually gone by then.   We'll see how it goes...

Be safe,

H~

Do you have a time set? I need to run down to Advanced Kawi in Buena Park. I may try to squeeze that in before your ride.

Lisa,

We're meeting at the station at the corner of Todd road and Foothill Blvd in Irwindale at 3:00 PM.   It's easy to get to.  Exit the 210 freeway at Irwindale Ave and go north to Foothill blvd.  Turn right, then take the first left.  That's Todd road.

This is going to be a chill ride at or below the speed limit with lots of stops and breaks for the newbies.

Ride safe,

H~

Cool. I think I can do that. Do you really look like your picture? Do you go by Hawster or ... ?? What will you be riding?

Thanks for the confirmation.

Have fun!

Hawk - assuming you go up Azusa Canyon, consider riding up past East Fork a ways. The gate where we usually have to stop is now open and you can go another 4 miles or so. Couple of twisties but mostly sweeping turns. Perfect for newer riders - there's a big wide turnout (and john) at the new gate closure - good place to take a break. I discovered this yesterday, so just wanted you to know.

By the way, what the hell do you look like?

It was a good ride!  A bit crazy in that Missie and I were at Hell's Kitchen till 12:40 with another group, then had to jet up to meet everyone in Azusa.  Traffic and the head-winds sucked but we made it almost in time.

Almost all of the people were skillz-peeps from other boards.  It ended up being a sort of mentor ride for the more experienced and a noob-ride for the newbies.  Fun was had, and much was learned by all.  Flor was our star newbie.  She was rocking it by the time we reached the top of the canyon and turned around to head back.  Good on her for working so hard to get where she is as a rider!

We didn't do GMR or GRR, but did do East Fork out to the Bridge to nowhere.   We stopped at Juan Pollo on the way back and ate a few chickens.  Good times!

Good tip, Bill.  Those sweepers at the top of the canyon were fun!

Ride safe,

H~

On Saturday my friend and I rode South from my place in Burbank/Glendale to Advanced Kawasaki in Bueana Park. I had to pick up a part. That worked out fine.

Next we went to Bert's Giganto-Store in Covina. We met 2 other Women On Wheels riders. We rode North to the GMR area. We ended up going up to the area you described (I recognize the area from H's pictures). Then we came back down went across that bridge and on to the Mt. Baldy Lodge for lunch. This ride was all new to us which was exciting. What a trip! That 2 way rode that looks like a road race course is awesome and frightening at the same time. It was a great ride! Sorry we missed your group later in the day. I want to do this ride again!
