4/21/07... Weather?
« on: April 20, 2007, 08:40:06 PM »
I was originally planning on riding tomorrow. first it said rain, then it said no....  I spoke to Cam earlier in the week and she mentioned GMR....  I think that with the high altitude it may not be a good bet (black ice).  Same for ACH.

Anyone have a bead on the forecast for tomorrow?  I might due a Malibu run.  (except i dont know malibu anymore and would get lost)

Purely noncommital from me right now, but anyone else have any thoughts or feelings?

I want to ride tomorrow!  I've got everything done so that my Sat. is free to go riding and then it rains.  :(

I don't know what the weather is going to do tomorrow... but if there's somewhere to ride that is not wet and too cold, I wanna go.  ;D

Malibu is listing a high of 62. Its usually the warmest spot to ride. I froze last week and it was warmer. i'm out for this one >:(

I'm pretty much over this crappy weather.
I need the sunshine in the morning, I'm heading for the open road.

I went on an unplanned ride w/ my bro today.  We ended up taking some backroads to the 126 west to the 150 to Ojai, had lunch and came back.  The weather was sunny part of the time and cold and cloudy the rest.  He did great though and it was a good ride.

Oh yeah, his bike ran out of gas a few miles from Ojai.   :P   Since the Ninja 250 has no gas gauge or warning light, this was the first time he had tested the bike's range.  Anyway it wasn't a big deal, just fortunate that we were only a few miles from a gas station.  We had to ride 2-up on my bike into Ojai, buy a 2 gallon gas jug that he filled and hung onto on the way back to his bike, filled his tank and then rode into Ojai.  Other than that it was a good, if kinda cold, problem-free ride.   ;D

Sounds like you guys had a good time...  I ended up not going anywhere - except the store.  :-[
Figured I'd wait until the middle of next week when it's supposed to be warmer.

Ray, did your brother run the reserve out of gas too?  When I had my Ninja 250 I could usually go around 190 miles before hitting reserve (if I remember right).  It's a challenge to switch to reserve while riding, but I managed it a few times.   ;)

When I had my EX500 it was always fun trying to switch to reserve when riding, especially on the freeway. The first time it happened I thought the bike was about to blow up.

Its good to know how far the bike can go so that you can avoid it.

We tried switching to reserve but it did nothing.   >:(  He's just gonna have to watch his mileage closely.

If you run it dry, it will take a bit of time to fill up the float bowls again.  So, if you had ran it dry and you have stopped, switch it to reserve, and then crank it for like 10 sec, then let it rest, then repeat again.  Should start up within 3 tries.

The reserve is the ninja's fuel gauge.  You should make sure it works (might be clogged).  And also have your brother practice switching it while riding.  Don't want to learn that on the go when it happens to you the first time.  (Happened to me the first time on the freeway too, and I was on the 110 between Pasadena and LA, and it was my first freeway ride.  Definately not fun).

The funny thing was that we could get it to start in Reserve (with the choke on), but then it would die at the slightest twist of the throttle.  Anyway yeah maybe something's clogged; I'm gonna have him run Sea Foam through a few tanks of gas and see if that clears anything up.

you will have to run it with the petcock set to reserve though.  If you feel like it, it's not too hard to find the tube that's used for the reserve; you can take that out and check it and/or clean it.  Or it could be the intake inside the tank
